NFC Championship Preview: Commanders at Eagles

by | Jan 23, 2025 | NFL, Stuff About Sports

Alright folks, Jerm here, ready to break down this Eagles-Commanders matchup. And let me tell you, I’ve got some thoughts, especially about those Philly fans…

Phickle Philly Fans

Let’s be real, Philly fans are the definition of “phony and fake.” They talk a big game about being tough, defiant, and loyal, but they were ready to throw Nick Sirianni to the curb just a few weeks ago. This is the same guy who has taken them to the playoffs every single year, has a Super Bowl appearance under his belt, and is now one game away from another one! Talk about a quick trigger finger.

Sirianni: Doing the Bare Minimum (and That’s Okay!)

Now, I’m not saying Sirianni is some coaching genius. Let’s be honest, his main job is to manage the clock and make sure the team vibes are good. He’s got Kellen Moore calling plays for that explosive offense and Vic Fangio leading that top-ranked defense. Sirianni just needs to not mess it up.

Commanders’ Chances: Slimmer Than a Philly Cheesesteak

But let’s get to the real talk: this Commanders team has about as much chance of winning as I do of getting a real Philly cheesesteak in North Carolina (spoiler alert: it ain’t happening).

They barely squeaked by the Lions, and their run defense is ranked 30th in the league. Saquon Barkley is licking his chops, ready to put up another 150+ yards and two touchdowns.

The Commanders’ only hope is to somehow contain Saquon and make Jalen Hurts beat them with his arm. But even then, Hurts has proven he can sling it when he needs to. It’s going to be a tough day for the Commanders in that hostile Philly environment.

Final Verdict: Fly Eagles Fly (unfortunately)

Look, I’m not saying it’s impossible for the Commanders to pull off the upset. Anything can happen on any given Sunday. But realistically, the Eagles are the better team, they’re at home, and they’re hungry for another Super Bowl appearance.

So, Philly fans, get ready to celebrate (and maybe apologize to Sirianni while you’re at it). And Commanders fans, well, maybe start planning your offseason vacations now.
